“COVID-19 Update: Preventive Measures and Vaccination Key to Curbing Transmission – Ministry of Health Report”

According to the report from the Ministry of Health (Minsa), since the disease was detected in March 2020 to date, the number of registered deaths remains at 8,620.

In the seven days of that report, 591 new positive cases were confirmed for a cumulative of one million 37 thousand 324 infections.

The Minsa stressed the importance of preventive measures and vaccination as the most efficient weapons to cut the chain of transmission of the causative virus, SARS-Cov-2.

During the last week, a total of 11,222 tests were carried out for a positivity of 5.3 percent.

The total number of recovered was 628 patients, raising the total number to one million 28 thousand 182 people who overcame the disease.

For its part, the Expanded Immunization Program highlights that from January 21, 2021 and so far, eight million 884 thousand 475 vaccines have been applied, of which three million 532 thousand 981 first doses; three million 174 thousand 111 second; and one million 757 thousand 369 injections of a first reinforcement.

In the country, a total of 139,556 doses of the bivalent vaccine and 4,244 children between five and 11 years of age have also been administered to people over 12 years of age.
