COVID-19: Threat of black code in Suriname, possibly stricter measures



Suriname is in the middle of the third wave of contamination, with the so-called Brazilian variant being the biggest culprit. Sunday there were 185 people in the hospital, 30 in intensive care and another 4 corona deaths were recorded. According to the Surinamese Minister of Health, Amar Ramadhin, there is a good chance that the corona measures will be tightened this week

This is because the number of corona patients in Surinamese hospitals continues to increase, resulting in a threat of code black. The minister said on the radio today that there is no formal question of black code, whereby hospitals have to make choices as to which patients are given priority.

In the daily practice of Surinamese hospitals, however, this would already happen in individual cases, writes the Algemeen Dagblad. Hospitals are close to maximum capacity and are therefore on the verge of further scaling down regular care.
