Could the Covid-19 pandemic mark time in the Rhône department? The indicators of Hospices Civils de Lyon (HCL) and of Public health France show a stagnation in the spread of the virus.
The health situation remains worrying, with a high occupancy rate in hospitals. The number of cases is equivalent to mid-October, before the second confinement, even if the dynamics are quite different, with stagnation since the beginning of the year 2021 therefore.
Lyon hospitals still under pressure
At 9 mars 2021, HCL count 345 patients hospitalized due to Covid-19, exactly like last week. The pressure in intensive care has decreased slightly with 77 people hospitalized in these services, against 79 seven days ago.
The occupancy rate of the 178 intensive care beds in the HCL thus fell from 96.1% to 94.9%. The HCL specify that 45% of patients in intensive care are in Covid + (the unit for the most serious cases, Editor’s note). Like last week, Covid-19 is the cause of 9.3% of adult emergency visits and 8.6% of calls to the Samu.
The positivity rate drops from 8.3% last week to 8% this week. It decreases from 6.6% to 5.2% for HCL professionals.
Six deaths from Covid every day in the Rhône
In the territory outside the HCL, including the establishments of Rhône and the hospitals of Bourgoin and Vienna, in Isère, hospitalizations increased to 623 patients, against 616 last week. However, they are only 48 in intensive care, against 53 seven days ago.
But threats of additional restrictions still hang over the Rhône, which displays a hospital pressure of 86% and a positivity rate of 7.4%. On average, six people have died from Covid-19 each day in the department over the past week. 166 patients are in intensive care out of 878 hospitalizations and 618 cases have tested positive for 9,090 tests carried out over the last seven days.
Slightly declining incidence rate
As for the main indicator taken into consideration by the authorities, it is in decline. The incidence rate drops to 231 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 234 last week. It remains the highest in the region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
Data to be put into perspective since the English variant, more contagious, continues to progress. It represents 63.6% of Rhone cases, against 21% for the classic strain, according to data from Covid Tracker.
In the Rhône, the incidence rate (323) is highest among 20-29 year olds, ahead of the over 90s (304). In contrast, it is lowest among 0-9 year olds (106), ahead of 80-89 year olds (157)
Schools remain under close surveillance, as evidenced by the closure of several classes in Villeurbanne last week. This Monday, it is in Savoie that four schools were closed.
