WASHINGTON (USA) .- The United States reached 28’409,036 confirmed cases of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and 508,088 deaths from the disease Covid-19, according to the independent count of the Universidad Johns Hopkins.
This balance at 20.00 local time (01.00 GMT on Friday) is 3,269 more deaths than the Wednesday and 81,040 new infections.
California is now the state hardest hit by the pandemic with 51,202 deaths, followed by New York (47,264), Texas (43,085), Florida (30,478), Pennsylvania (23,840), New Jersey (23,147) e Illinois (22,607).
Other states with large death toll include Georgia (17,199), Ohio (17,125), Michigan (16,436), Massachusetts (15,978) o Arizona (15,814).
As for contagions, California adds 3’552,451, it follows Texas with 2’632,262, third is Florida with 1’892,301, New York is fourth with 1’619,924 e Illinois is fifth with 1’181,151.
The provisional death toll – 508,088 – far exceeds the lower limit of the initial White House estimates, which projected between 100,000 and 240,000 deaths from the pandemic in the best of cases.
The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has predicted that in total more than 600,000 people will die in the country from the virus.
The Institute for Health Metrics and Assessments (IHME) of the University of WashingtonThe White House, whose prediction models for the evolution of the pandemic often look at, estimates that by June 1, some 575,000 will have died.
