While the government advocates the most extreme caution in the face of the rise of variants, in Alsace the circulation data of the coronavirus indicates a very clear slowdown in contaminations as they have been measured for months: the latest bulletin from the Regional Agency for Health shows that the Bas-Rhin descended over seven sliding days to an incidence rate of 157 new cases per week per 100,000 inhabitants, in constant decline since February 1 (we were then around 220). In the Haut-Rhin, the curve bends even more markedly with an incidence rate falling to 132 (it exceeded 220 new cases on January 25): this department has fallen below the reinforced alert threshold set at this stage. to 150!
The two largest Alsatian cities, which play an aggravating role in the viral spread, themselves show clearly declining traffic levels, especially Mulhouse where the rate drops to 159 (it was 245 the first week of January). Strasbourg returns to an incidence rate of 178 (compared to 272 the last week of January). Screening levels do not explain the phenomenon since they are higher than those at the start of the year.
Shadow of variants
These figures nevertheless call for caution, because of the shadow of the variants, as well as possible heterogeneities of the groups tested from one week to the next. But we are far from the rates of the nearby Moselle, of the order of double compared to the Haut-Rhin, and even more of those of the Alpes-Maritimes, four times higher.
The other important indicator in monitoring the epidemic, the number of hospitalizations, follows the same trend as the incidence rates, although it is much less marked: there are fewer hospitalized patients in the region (-3 at the last count), and even intensive care stays are falling (-4 on Wednesday).
