Only the transport and logistics sector will have resisted in 2020 with the advantages of e-commerce and delivery warehouses.
Nearly 100,000 jobs destroyed
The current health crisis caused by the epidemic of coronavirus caused a decline in activity in many sectors. As a result, temporary work experienced a significant decline in 2020. According to the Prism’emploi barometer, which will be published at the end of the morning, temporary work has experienced an annual decline of 23.6%, compared to 2019. Concretely, this figure translates into the destruction of around 100,000 jobs, in full-time equivalent, reports RTL.
The sectors concerned
Several sectors are particularly affected by this decline in temporary work. This is the case for construction and public works with -28.8% of temporary work in 2020 compared to 2019. This is the highest drop while the construction sector has gone through three months catastrophic since last March. The service sector (hotels and restaurants, culture, leisure) comes in second after the shutdown of all these sectors for several months already. Finally, industry, particularly the automotive and aeronautics sectors, is also severely affected. Only the transport and logistics sector will have survived in 2020 (-3.8%), thanks to online commerce, platforms and delivery warehouses.
