Covid-19: The public is called upon to observe precautionary measures – in Latvia

Assessing the epidemiological situation in Latvia and observing the increase in COVID-19 morbidity in recent days, the epidemiologists of the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC) draw public attention to the main precautionary principles that we all, as Latvian society, must now follow:

1. Keep a distance of at least 2 meters from others.

2. Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20-40 seconds.

3. Avoid visiting public places or private events where distance is impossible and people are crowded.

4. Evaluate – whether this summer you need to go on a trip outside the Baltic States, meet people who have come from abroad or receive guests from abroad.

5. Download the Stop Covid app to find out sooner if you have been in contact with COVID-19. With the app, you will be able to start activities in time to avoid endangering family, colleagues, friends and other residents.

6. You have the opportunity to take a state-funded COVID-19 test even if you have no symptoms. It is mandatory to check in advance by calling 8303 on weekdays from 08:00 to 20:00, on Saturdays from 09:00 to 15:00 and on Sundays from 09:00 to 12:00.

If you have returned from abroad:

1. Follow the information on the SPKC website about the necessary precautions when returning from abroad;

2. carry out self-isolation at the place of residence for the next 14 days if you have been in a country where the COVID-19 incidence rate exceeds 16 days.

3. Monitor your health, and if you experience any of the symptoms of a respiratory infection (fever, cough, sore throat, difficulty breathing, etc.), call your doctor.

4. Do not visit public places, workplaces, visits and other public places and premises where people stay.

If you have been in contact with a COVID-19 patient and the SPCC has identified you as a close contact:

1. Stay home! Observe home quarantine.

2. Monitor your health for the next 14 days, you will be contacted by a family doctor.

3. You are not allowed to visit public places, go to work and visit other public places and spaces.

If you experience signs of illness (eg cough, sore throat, fever, shortness of breath):

1. Stay home!

2. Contact your doctor by phone and arrange for further treatment.

3. Cough and sneeze, cover mouth and nose with a disposable tissue, discarded after use, and then wash your hands; if there is no disposable wipe or handkerchief, cough or sneeze on the surface of the inner elbow joint (sleeve), but do not do it in the palm of your hand.

4. Be available for communication and collaboration with the epidemiologist and GP.

5. Follow the instructions.

6. Does not expose another person to the risk of infection, does not form direct contacts with other people (does not receive guests, does not go on private visits, to work, public and public places and premises).

7. Isolation can only be terminated with the permission of the attending physician.

It is recalled that the causative agent of COVID-19 is spread by direct contact with tiny droplets caused by the infected person speaking, sneezing or coughing, as well as by indirect contact with surfaces and objects contaminated with airway secretions.
