From the Departmental Health Service (Headquarters) of Santa Cruz they foresee the increase in cases with a view to the peak of the fourth wave. For six weeks, new cases of Covid-19 have been on the rise, making the positivity rate go from 6% to 9% and up to 10%.
This Epidemiological week is recorded as the one with the most cases in 75 days, that is, two and a half months. Two hours before the closing of the records, 1,469 new positives had already been reported.
The Headquarters calculates the arrival of the peak fourth wave cases by end of October and the second week of November, although the infectologist Juan Saavedra foresees it only for December.
The good news is that, although cases are increasing, bed occupancy in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has dropped considerably, an effect that is attributed to the vaccine, since in the capital Santa Cruz so far there is more than 51% herd immunity (scheme with two doses), according to data from Headquarters.
In the hospital ward, that is, less serious cases, the report of the tertiary level hospitals indicate 15% occupancy of beds and 33% in ICUs, while in ICU it is 36%. Previously, the Departmental Secretary of Health, Fernando Pacheco, had reported that 90% of the hospitalized people were not vaccinated.
Roberto Vargas, municipal secretary of Health, today presented new data on the second level centers, which are under the jurisdiction of the Mayor’s Office. “The occupation of the Intermediate Care Unit (ICU) is by 37%We have a lot of free space, and we have also made an analysis of the people hospitalized and those who have died. 70% of those who died had no vaccines, and 75% of those admitted to the ICU did not have vaccines either. We have done this analysis by hospital, it only means getting vaccinated, “he said.
Authorized service centers
The municipal network has 37 vaccination points and five second-level hospitals where Covid-19 is treated, El Bajío, Villa Primero de Mayo, La Pampa, Hospital Francés and Los Pocitos (Plan 3,000). However, Vargas clarified that the only center where Covid-19 patients are not received in the ICU is Los Pocitos, because it is a clean room / free of the virus.
From the Headquarters they explained that people can go to get vaccinated at the same centers as always, with the exception of El Remanso, which has been closed for several months. The same centers that vaccinated with the first and second doses are vaccinating with the third, with the novelty that points that are transitory were enabled, such as those set up in the Abasto market, Transport Federation, etc. In total, in the department there are 200 points authorized to be immunized. For apply the first dose, people can go to any of the points, according to Headquarters, and the same for the third vaccine; however, for the second, patients have to go to where the first was placed.
Special cases are those of people who were vaccinated in other provinces or municipalities, cities, etc., those should get the second dose in the Elvira Wunderlich center, on Santos Dumont avenue. Those who were immunized in other parts of the department can apply the third vaccine in any authorized place, even in other municipalities. “This for do not miss the opportunity of vaccination, we want herd immunity from both the vaccine and the disease “, they indicated from Headquarters.
From the October 22 began to vaccinate minors between 16 and 17 years old. Adolescents between 12 and 15 years old will have this opportunity in one or two more months, confirmed from the governing body of health of the department.
Health Minister Jeyson Auza reiterated that It is essential that the departmental health services apply strategies that result in the immunization of the largest number of their population and he recalled that the national government complied with guaranteeing 100% of the immunizations for its vaccinable population.
Auza reflected that a vaccinated person is less likely to be hospitalized and to die from the disease, data that should be an element that stimulates the population to go to vaccination centers.
He remarked that vaccination in third dose for over 18s will run until the end of October and for persons under 16 and 17 years of age, it will continue until the goals set by the Ministry of Health have been met.
