11h03 – Operation of vaccine distribution by hospitals with “caution” and “safety”
Asked how vaccines will be distributed to hospital centers, Marta Temido said that “they are now expected to leave” the storage location “for hospitals, so that tomorrow they can be administered”.
“There are a number of aspects that (…), even for security reasons, we have to maintain with a certain safeguard”, he explained, adding that this operation will be carried out with “all caution, with all security” and “managed by various ministries “.
11h02 – Minister of Health says it is “a historic landmark”
Marta Temido was at the site receiving the transport of the first doses of the vaccine. To the journalists, the Minister of Health started by saying that the arrival of vaccines in Portugal is “a historic milestone” for everyone.
“It’s an important day after such a difficult year for most of us, for the Portuguese, for Europeans in general,” began Marta Temido. A year “in which it was so difficult to deal with so much uncertainty, it was difficult to deal with so many new circumstances and in which so many sacrifices were requested”.
“A window of hope is now opening, with a vaccine that is expected to help us fight the disease next year,” he continued.
However, Marta Temido says that we must not forget that it is winter and, therefore, there is still “a very difficult fight to do”.
“But there is now an opportunity and a hope that results from the new vaccine and that today was delivered in the first quantity”, remembering that another second set of deliveries is still foreseen.
“It is now up to the health system to do its job”.
Questioned by journalists, Marta Temido also guaranteed that a “new shipment will arrive next week”, next Monday, the 28th.
