The advance of vaccination plan in Argentina managed to attenuate, at least until now, the massive spread of the new variants of the coronavirus that cause a new outbreak in Europe with an increase in infections and deaths. The data was highlighted by the Buenos Aires Minister of Health, Fernán Quirós, to explain the contrast between what is now happening here and in several European countries. According to the Real-time Vaccination Monitor, 64,965,087 doses were applied in the country, almost 36 million people completed the scheme. The objective of the campaign, confirmed the Minister of Health Carla Vizzotti, is arrive next fall with “the entire population with two doses and the booster in the elderly and at risk” to prevent the impact of the new waves that the old continent is experiencing today.
“We reached a very high percentage of vaccination and we are making great progress in the world ranking with one and two doses, and that translates into this epidemiological situation and stability in the number of cases, despite mobility and the Delta variant which is predominant in many urban agglomerates, “said Vizzotti, in statements to the press.
The same was confirmed by Minister Quirós, when analyzing why the country did not experience until now the reappearance of a third wave as occurs in Europe. “The situation begins to stop being similar when two big changes occur: the rate of natural disease and the vaccination rate at the time of entry of new variants ”, He said about the time of the arrival of the Delta country variant and its different impact with respect to other places in the world.
“Delta entered South America between 4 and 6 months later than in Europe. In those months, the American vaccination campaigns had advanced a lot. For this reason it is very difficult to compare or project because the acquired immunity scenarios are different ”, he declared. Regarding Argentina, in particular, he highlighted that “We are among the countries in which more vaccines were applied”.
Finally, Quirós remarked that each wave of infections acquires its particular form in the local context. “We know the general lines of the behavior of the pandemic because Europe anticipates us, but each of the waves that are coming find different epidemiological situations in each place “, he added this Thursday at his usual morning press conference.
Care measures
The Buenos Aires Minister of Health also recalled that “the pandemic has not ended in the world, nor in Argentina, nor in the City” of Buenos Aires, so He called for “the two great barriers that are immune protection and the use of chinstraps and ventilation” not to be lost. If this happens, he warned, there may be flare-ups.
Along the same lines as the rest of the country, the City has high vaccination rates. 88 percent of the Buenos Aires population has already started the vaccination scheme against coronavirus, and 76 percent have the two doses. The minister reported that 86,451 immunosuppressed people and older than 50 years who had been vaccinated with Sinopharm had already received the additional dose. He also highlighted that 28,943 booster doses were applied.
