Even after two years of pandemic, beliefs about Covid-19 are numerous. In fact, we still know very little about this virus, which will still have to be analyzed scientifically in order to fully understand it.
However, the World Health Organization (WHO) has compiled received ideas on the virus. Actu.fr identified the ten most unusual questions to which the organization answered.
1/ Does eating garlic protect against Covid?
Questions were still pouring in a few weeks ago on social networks on this subject: does garlic protect against Covid-19 and its variants?
Some added it to their dishes, their herbal teas, or even crunched it to the fullest to protect themselves from the virus, but that is useless.
The WHO specifies that, even if garlic is a healthy food […] with certain microbial properties”, ” nothing proves that garlic protects people against Covid”.
2/ Does getting in the sun prevent contracting the virus?
It is a belief that comes from after the first confinement. The beautiful days returning, and the virus circulating less, we could believe that the sun and the heat could protect against the virus.
It is not so. It is possible to contract the Covid in any climate, specifies the WHO. “Even in hot, sunny weather. »
Countries with warm climates have reported cases of Covid.
3/ Is covid transmitted by water, when swimming?
Swimming is good for your health and don’t worry, going to the pool does not increase the chances of getting sick.
“The virus is not transmitted through water when swimming,” assure WHO specialists.
It is still advisable to avoid crowded places and keep at least one meter away, even when swimming.
4/ Is Covid spread through shoes?
Are your favorite shoes could spread the virus? This seems unlikely, even if the WHO recognizes a very small probability. The organization therefore recommends taking off your shoes in places where young children could play on the ground.
“This will help prevent contact with dirt or litter brought under the shoes. »
5/ Does drinking alcohol protect against Covid?
A little beer and goodbye corona? No, if you think you can get away with a drink so as not to be contaminated, might as well drink water. Because in addition to not protecting against Covid, frequent or excessive consumption can be dangerous for your health.
6/ Does adding chilli to your dishes help you heal faster?
While chilli seasons dishes very well, it is not in no way effective to heal, or even protect yourself from the Covid.
If you want to protect yourself, and more generally be in good health, good hydration, regular physical activity, and quality sleep are all things recommended by the WHO.
Against the Covid in particular, nothing better than distancing and washing your hands frequently.
7/ Can flies and mosquitoes transmit the virus?
“There is, to date, no data or information tending to show that the flies households transmit the Covid”, explains the WHO. Same thing for mosquitoes, the virus being respiratory, there is no element which indicates that these insects can transmit it.
Infections occur through respiratory droplets, when a person coughs, sneezes or sputters.
8/ Can bleach be a bulwark against Covid?
Warning, toxic product! “Under no circumstances should bleach or another surface disinfectant be sprayed on your body, nor introduced into your body”, warns the WHO (even if the former American president Donald Trump suggested at the start of the pandemic).
If bleach is ingested, it can be toxic to the body. As for spraying, bleach or surface disinfectants can irritate or damage skin and eyes.
They should only be used for surfaces, and with care.
9/ Are hand dryers effective in killing the virus?
If washing hands is extremely important in the fight against Covid, hand dryers are not effective against the virus.
Moreover, to dry your hands after washing them, it is better to carefully use paper towels or a hot air dryer.
10/ Do 5G telephone networks spread Covid?
Conspiracy theories have flourished about 5G and Covid. However, the virus, if it circulates by droplets, does not spread via radio waves, nor mobile waves. Also, several countries that do not yet have 5G have identified cases of Covid.
