As a symptom of infection virus corona The cause of Covid-19, coughing is often underestimated. In fact, in recent times, the trend of cases Covid-19 is experiencing an increase.

Often people are not aware that the cough they experience is an early symptom of Covid-19. So, how do you differentiate them?

Basically, coughing is the body’s natural mechanism for fighting pathogens such as viruses and bacteria that enter. Coughing occurs when the body is trying to expel invading bacteria or viruses.

Indeed, it is quite difficult to differentiate the symptoms of Covid-19 and the common cold. Moreover, the mutation of SARS-CoV-2 continues and makes the symptoms milder.

Symptoms of the common cold and Covid-19 also tend to be similar. Ranges from coughs, colds, sore throats and fever. The similarity in symptoms occurs because both diseases both attack the upper respiratory tract.

However, you may be able to differentiate it from the character of the cough produced. In general, coughs that are a symptom of Covid-19 tend to be dry. This is different from a cough which tends to produce phlegm due to the common cold.

Lung specialist and Professor at the UI Faculty of Medicine, Professor Tjandra Aditama, said that the thing to pay attention to is if the cough is accompanied by other symptoms. Here are some symptoms to pay attention to:

– fever,
– have a cold,
– chest pain,
– body feels weak,
– joint pain,
– the sense of smell changes.

“Regarding who needs swabs more, it can be a combination of those with the above symptoms, those at high risk such as the elderly and people with comorbidities, who are in contact with Covid-19 patients,” he said, Tuesday (12/12), citing detikhealth.

In fact, he continued, if you experience a cough one day after contact with a positive Covid-19 patient, then you also need to immediately carry out testing with antigen or PCR.

In recent times, the trend of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia has increased again. This can be seen from data from October to November 2023 where cases appear to have tripled.

SARS-CoV-2 subvariants Omicron EG.5 and EG.2 are said to be the culprit behind this increasing trend. Both were first detected in Indonesia in early 2023.

Apart from Indonesia, an increasing trend in Covid-19 cases has also been observed in a number of neighboring countries such as Malaysia and Singapore.
