Covid-19. Sweden considers unprecedented measures in light of the increase in cases in Stockholm – Observer

The Swedish authorities are considering adopting local restrictive measures in Stockholm, due to the recent increase in infections by Covid-19, which if confirmed would mean a change in the strategy so far adopted by the country in combating the pandemic.

The downward trend has ended. If the curve continues to rise, the situation could become dangerous, ”said Stockholm health official Bjoern Eriksson.

According to Swedish health authorities, in the last seven days there were 305 new cases in the capital, compared to 254 the previous week.

Also the head of public health in Sweden, Anders Tegnell, a defender so far of the stance adopted in the country, acknowledged that if the upward trend continues, “local restrictions” will have to be considered in Stockholm.

Sweden has stood out from most countries and even from other Nordic countries, in the same pandemic situation, by not adopting any recommendation for the mandatory use of masks. Those responsible for that country have privileged individual responsibility, instead of dictating restrictions, news agency EFE.

This strategy caused controversy, especially in times of higher incidence of the pandemic, when the number of infections and deaths was even higher than other countries in that region, which chose to apply measures.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 89,436 people have been infected with the new coronavirus and 5,870 fatalities in Sweden.
