Researchers have developed an app that collects breath sounds and cough sounds. This is intended to identify Corona.
Researchers at the University of Cambridge are developing a smartphone app that is designed to help identify Covid 19 based on coughing and breathing noises and the sound of the voice. With the With the Covid 19 Sounds app, users can upload audio recordings of their coughing or breathing noises to the scientists’ servers for only a few seconds.
Currently this only works as a web app in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, apps for iOS and Android are to follow. For each uploaded audio file with the coughing noises, the user has to provide some information such as gender, age and their health. And also indicate whether he / she tested positive for the corona virus.
The researchers want to use the uploaded material to develop a system based on AI and machine learning, with the help of which Covid 19 can be reliably identified on the basis of breathing noises. For this it is important that many people upload their breathing sounds. This should include many healthy people, because their breathing noises are urgently needed to differentiate.
The researchers assure that the app does not track users. The app also does not return any medical assessment. The app is currently a one-way street: The user can only upload his audio file with the breathing sounds and the accompanying information, but he does not receive any rating.
The researchers want to make the data available to other researchers. (PC world)
