FAJAR.CO.ID, SINGAPORE — Health workers, especially nurses in Singapore, are starting to get tired because of the surge in Covid-19 cases. Hospitals have been asked to postpone operations and less urgent appointments to prioritize Covid-19 patients.
More patients have to be treated, making health workers work overtime and be called to work on holidays. There is no time to rest, causing fatigue and boredom. This is what many health workers in hospitals have experienced since local Covid-19 cases rose to thousands every day starting in mid-September.
One of the nurses, Anne (not her real name), revealed that the number of infected patients she had to monitor in SingHealth Hospital’s Covid-19 ward had doubled. In July and early August, the 24-year-old woman and her colleagues treated 6 patients at once. Now, they look after 12 patients at once.
“We don’t even have time to rest. I just push in and sometimes don’t even go to the toilet,” he said.
