Covid-19. Slight drop in positive cases in schools in the Nancy-Metz academy

On the eve of the holidays, the protests have calmed down, and the pandemic is marking time in the Nancy-Metz academy. Including in Moselle. According to the weekly situation update of the rectorate, established from data stopped on Thursday 1 p.m., 651 cases of Covid were confirmed among the students (0.2%, + 95 cases in 24 hours), against 631 last week , and 101 cases among staff, or 21 fewer cases. “We are on a false dish descending”, estimates the rector of the academy Jean-Marc Huart.

Closures on the rise

On the other hand, the number of structures or closed classes is skyrocketing. The reason ? “The targeted protocol with the reinforcement of precautionary measures in Moselle which accommodates 45% of the academic school population”, answers the rector. “We consider in this department that any positive case is potentially a South African variant, which leads to immediate closure of the classes from a detected case”.

The number of school structures (schools and establishments) is multiplied by three. Among the 24 closed structures (out of the 2,494 that make up the academy), there are 18 schools, 4 colleges and 2 high schools, 21 are located in Moselle (16 schools, 3 colleges, 2 high schools). The situation report of this Friday shows 458 classes closed against 88 last week. Of which 374 in Moselle.

As it is closed a day earlier, the situation is likely to change until the evening of the holidays. Including favorably, with the reopening of the colleges of Lexy (54) and Bouzonville (57). Or in the opposite direction, with new total or partial closures: the Pompey school in Vandeuvre-lès-Nancy has closed its doors, just like in Lunévillois, the Badonviller school; the boarding school of the Arsenal college in Metz, which welcomes high-level athletic students, was also the subject of a closure measure, as was that of the Georges de La Tour school complex in Nancy, where 5th grade and all 1st grade students were asked to stay home. In Meuse, two classes were closed in Triaucourt, and a class and a half in Ancemont, a kindergarten class in Fresnes-en-Woëvre. In the Vosges, a class was closed at the Le Tertre college in Remiremont. In Etival-Clairefontaine, the Pajailles nursery school has just closed its doors.

Rector meeting before the start of the school year

When he praised the “good relations with the ARS”, the rector was not followed by the unions. “We noted a delay of the regional health agency on certain situations”, nuance François Wey, academic secretary of the FSU. The arrival of saliva tests at the start of the school year, announced by the rector, satisfied the union official. But he awaits “other signs” such as “the resumption of sports practice while announcing the holding of festivals, and the presentation of different scenarios to prepare for the start of the school year. We will scrutinize the indicators when the Parisians return ”, which resumed on 1is March. At the end of that week, the rector and unions must in principle take stock, a few days before the start of the Grand Est.
