Covid-19. Sixteen caregivers from Pays de la Loire to reinforce the West Indies

Sixteen health professionals from the region are leaving for the West Indies. No question of lazing on the beaches. Four doctors, a masseur-physiotherapist, five nursing assistants and six nurses from Nantes University Hospital, Angers University Hospital, Mans Hospital, Vendée Hospital, Confluent Hospital and Polyclinique de l ‘Europe (in Nantes) will provide support in saturated medical and intensive care services in Guadeloupe and Martinique.

An appeal from the Minister of Health

They are responding to the call of the Minister of Solidarity and Health, Olivier Véran. The situation is particularly worrying in the West Indies with patients flocking to the already saturated medical and intensive care services, in Martinique as in Guadeloupe. The incidence rates are very high and well above the national average and the vaccination rate of 17% against 54.6% of the national average.

In Pays de la Loire, many health professionals have come forward. All the establishments in the region, public and private, and all liberal professionals were also called upon to meet the needs of nursing staff. About forty proposals were made to ARS Pays de la Loire.

Of these 40 proposals, 16 health professionals are leaving this Tuesday, August 10 for Guadeloupe (11) and Martinique.

Mobilized for 15 days

These reinforcements are mobilized for a period of 15 days. They join 4 professionals already on site in Guadeloupe, coming from the CH du Mans and the CHU d’Angers. A nursing assistant from the Confluent hospital, currently in reinforcement in Saint-Martin, will also continue her mission in Martinique.

The spirit of solidarity of professionals in the Loire Valley already makes it possible to constitute a second list of reinforcements for a possible rotation and / or renewal of teams in a few weeks if the health situation requires it.

250 caregivers in reinforcement from all over France

In all, 250 caregivers will join the West Indies on Tuesday, August 10. Distributed in two planes, one in the direction of Pointe-à-Pitre, the other in the direction of Fort-de-France, they leave from Orly airport.

Faced with the influx of patients, the two islands carried out the first evacuations of patients to hospitals in France in early August.
