Covid-19: Senegal receives a donation of 2.5 billion CFA francs from Japan

Dakar, 28 (Jul) – The government of Japan has donated 2.5 billion CFA francs to the State of Senegal for the supply of medical equipment for Covid-19 treatment centers, APS found , Tuesday in Dakar.

An “ exchange of notes ” formalizing the receipt of this aid took place in the Senegalese capital, between the Senegalese Minister of Economy, Planning and Cooperation, Amadou Hott, and the Japanese Ambassador to Senegal, Arai Tatsuo.

The donation ” will allow the government of Senegal to acquire high-quality medical equipment to improve its health system, as part of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, ” explained the Tokyo representative in Dakar.

“The Japanese government wanted to strengthen one of the major components of universal health coverage in Senegal (…), especially in this particularly difficult period marked by the presence of the coronavirus”, he added.

Amadou Hott magnified “ the exemplary and dynamic ” relations between the two countries and was delighted with the quality of Japan’s cooperation with Senegal, which is carried out through the Japanese Agency for international cooperation, for the Japanese side.

He praised Japan’s contribution to the realization of projects and programs in sectors vital to Senegal, including education, health, vocational training, water and maritime transport.

Tokyo also donated 1.5 billion CFA francs to Dakar, for the fight against Covid-19, recalled Mr. Hott.
