Data released this Sunday, in the daily epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), reveal that there are 224 Portuguese municipalities with at least three confirmed cases of Covid-19.

According to the same document, in the last 24 hours, 297 new cases were registered.

Lisbon (+35), Loures (+34), Odivelas (+22), Amadora (+19), Oeiras (+16), Seixal (+15) and Vila Franca de Xira (+12) are the municipalities with the highest increase in the number of infected in the last 24 hours, according to the DGS list. The seven belong to the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Region and together they add up to 153 new cases.

According to the same bulletin, 40 municipalities register at least one more confirmed case of Covid-19 compared to the previous day and eight counties add up to more than one thousand infected – Lisbon, Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto, Matosinhos, Braga, Sintra, Gondomar and Loures.

Knowing that the accounting will not be relative to the total number of cases – nor will it simultaneously monitor the data reported by the municipalities – DGS chose to provide only data from SINAVE, the national epidemiological surveillance system.

Lisbon occupies the top of the table with a total of 2,400 infected with the new coronavirus, followed by Vila Nova de Gaia (1,568), Porto (1,357) and Matosinhos (1,280). Of the 224 municipalities with at least three confirmed cases of Covid-19, 181 did not register an increase in the number of infected people compared to the previous day.

In the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley (LVT), 268 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in the last 24 hours – 90% of the total new cases.

The North concentrates most of the confirmed cases, with 16,760 (more than half of the total cases). Lisbon and Tagus Valley follow (11142 – plus 268, which represents 90% of the new cases this Sunday), Centro (3,744), Algarve (370), Alentejo (259), Azores (135) and Madeira (90 – since May 7 this number has not changed).

Greater Lisbon has several identified outbreaks, in some companies in Azambuja and in three neighborhoods on the south bank, including Jamaica.

Preventing people from concentrating on cafes is one of the measures admitted by the health delegate of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, Mário Durval, to counter the increase in the number of infections in the poorest neighborhoods of Greater Lisbon.

The residents’ association of Vale de Chícharos, in Seixal, defended this Wednesday that the neighborhood, better known as Jamaica, should be “isolated” and limited to residents, blaming “people who come from other counties” for the infection focus of covid-19.

The daily bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) records 1,410 deaths (14 more than on Saturday Friday) caused by the new coronavirus and 32 2500 positive cases (297 more).

This Sunday is marked by the second death of a Portuguese man between 20-29 years old since the pandemic arrived in Portugal. However, the vast majority of deaths, 947, occur in people over 80.

This updated report shows an increase of 223 in the number of recovered, to a total of 19,409. This represents 59.7% of the cases. There are currently 13 091 active cases.

Since January 1, 325,026 suspected cases have been registered. This Saturday’s report, with data updated until midnight on Friday, also reveals that 2,016 cases are still awaiting the results of laboratory tests and almost 28,000 people are under surveillance by health authorities.

The age group most affected by the disease is 40 to 49 years old (5,459), followed by 50 to 59 years old (5,365), 30 to 39 years old (4,918), 80 years old and upwards (4,545), 20 to 29 years (4,296), from 60 to 69 years (3,546), from 70 to 79 years (2,600), from 10 to 19 years (1,098) and up to nine years (673).

Overall, in Portugal there are 18,644 women and 13,856 men infected.

According to DGS, 40% of patients positive for the new coronavirus have cough symptoms, 29% fever, 21% muscle pain, 20% headache, 15% general weakness and 11% breathing difficulty. This information refers to 91% of confirmed cases.
