Covid 19 screening. No case of an English variant of the virus detected by the Strasbourg University Hospital to date

At the end of last week, for two days, sequencing on positive covid tests at the Strasbourg University Hospital and one or the other regional hospital center, were carried out to search in particular for the English variant which is circulating worryingly in Ile-de-France where it represents 10% of contamination cases. The analyzes were found to be negative. “We focused on positive samples with a certain viral load for this search for variants. We even looked at clusters in Alsace, ”emphasizes Professor Fafi-Kremer.

If the results are rather reassuring, she specifies that it is “a photo over a given period and on a certain number of samples. It is not exhaustive ”. Private laboratories also sent their positive tests to the National Reference Center (CNR), as part of the flash investigation of January 7 and 8, she said.

But vigilance remains essential, in the face of a situation that is always likely to evolve. The HUS Institute of Virology is participating in a new national flash survey this Wednesday, which consists of taking all the positive cases of the day and sequencing them to look for the different variants, resulting from the mutations of the virus. The results will be known early next week.
