Since the start of the seismic records, the earth’s subsoil had never been so calm. The containment measures resulted in an average reduction of 50% in human noise. A boon for seismologists around the world, which has enabled them to better understand and quantify this still poorly understood phenomenon. An article summarizing these observations was published in the journal Science. Two researchers from the Institute of Earth Sciences at UNIL, György Hetényi, geophysicist and Shiba Subedi, doctoral student, took part, providing data on Nepal.
