Jeffry said, this condition can actually be seen on a case-by-case basis. In some patients undergoing targeted therapy and the therapy is not thought to have too severe side effects compared to patients undergoing chemotherapy, systemic therapy can still be administered in a special room.

“But for those with full chemotherapy, we can’t continue. We’ll keep it until the Covid-19 test is negative, then we’ll continue,” she said.
According to Jeffry, this means there is a lull, and during that lull there are some cancer patients who initially experience mild symptoms which then progress to severe symptoms, although not many.
On the other hand, there is the so-called long Covid-19, indicated by antigen test results that remain positive, even if the SARS-CoV-2 virus is no longer present. In patients with this condition, chemotherapy is still being postponed.

“We cannot be 100% sure that the virus does not exist. The experience of my patients, there are those who have been positive for up to 30 days at Covid-19. When it was negative, the cancer had started growing more aggressively before it was hit by COVID-19,” Jeffry said.
As for the treatment of Covid-19 in cancer patients, it is no different from other patients. Jeffry said, what needs to be monitored is whether or not symptoms become severe.

“The incidence of Covid-19 in cancer patients is still there, but not as high as yesterday during Delta. The symptoms are only cough, runny nose without being accompanied by shortness of breath,” she said, reminding patients undergoing chemotherapy not to travel too much and to wear face masks.
