The Porcupine Health Unit announces that it will open the vaccination to people aged 12 and over, to counter a significant rise in the number of COVID-19 cases for more than a week in the region.

The first vaccination clinic that can accommodate them is organized on May 19.

First clinics that will vaccinate 12 years and over:

  • Aréna Claude Larose, Hearst : 21 mai

The health office indicates that these clinics require an appointment.

For more than a week, the number of active cases in the region has not stopped increasing, 254 active cases were identified on Monday.

Timmins declares state of emergency

One of the worst-affected cities in the Porcupine region, Timmins declared a state of emergency on Monday, due to a significant increase in tension in the region’s health services.

We cite in particular the teams of paramedics, who are afflicted with a heavy workload and who would be on the verge of seeing their services being reduced.

By way of a press release, the City of Timmins indicates that 10 people are hospitalized at the regional hospital, patients whose average age is 42 years.

The Porcupine Health Unit says it has applied to the province for the City of Timmins to be classified as a hot zone.

A classification like this would allow for a greater amount of vaccine, screening and support for facilities to allow isolation.
