The purpose of the inspections was to check that the restrictions on the spread of Covid-19 infection were observed in the entertainment venues, ie to find out whether these entertainment venues were closed after 24:00, the VP informed.

Police for this type of inspection will continue to do so.

The VP with the Riga Municipal Police inspected such entertainment venues as “First”, “Teritorija”, “DeFlou”, “Tallinn Quarter Territory”, “8 Lounge”, “Coyoty Fly”, “Radio Bar”, “Hemp Cultural Center“,” Purple “,” One One “,” Sound Factory Bar “,” Rock Cafe “,” B Bar “,” Kinki “,” Oman Diamond “,” Lemieks “and” Friend “.

According to the representatives of the VP, most of the nightclubs and bars in Riga complied with the set restrictions in good faith, but significant violations were found in two entertainment venues. Namely, in the nightclubs “Omas briljants” and “Violets” the work continued after 24 o’clock, alcohol was sold, loud music was played and the distance of two meters was not observed.

The VP notes that a conspiracy was used in the club “Violets” – there was a sign on the entrance door that the nightclub was not working, but visitors were admitted through the entrance to the club yard, the doors were locked and security guards carefully monitored the guests. After obtaining evidence that the nightclub continued to operate after midnight, acceptance of an inspection of the entertainment venue was received from the prosecutor as a matter of urgency.

Entry into the nightclub “Violets” took place with the use of special forces battalion forces. During the inspection of the entertainment place, one transparent polyethylene bag containing a light-colored powdered substance was found on the floor and removed during the inspection. In connection with the incident, an administrative violation proceeding was initiated pursuant to Article 48 (1) of the Law on the Legal Circulation of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances and Medicinal Products, as well as Precursors, the LP pointed out.

The owners of both entertainment venues have also been the subject of administrative proceedings under the Covid-19 Infection Control Act.

The LP said that similar inspections had been carried out elsewhere in Latvia. For example, in the service area of the Ogre district, 21 departmental inspections have been initiated regarding the use of alcohol by a minor. Also, during the inspection organized by the Ogre district, nine administrative proceedings on drug use were initiated at the place of gathering of minors. With the participation of a dog handler with a dog, seven MDMA tablets and about eight grams of marijuana were found and removed from young people.

VP recalls though the state of emergency in the country will take effect on November 9, the situation is already critical in terms of the spread of the infection. Therefore, residents are encouraged to take increased precautions already this weekend – do not go to places of entertainment, do not gather, use face masks in grocery stores, pharmacies and other public places, keep a distance of two meters from other visitors, and wash your hands often.

The LP also emphasized that the purpose of the established restrictions is not to punish people, but to protect them from the serious consequences of the spread of the infection. However, in cases where blatant and serious violations are detected, a severe penalty is provided – for individuals up to 2,000 euros, but for legal entities up to 5,000 euros.
