Covid-19: Peru signs contracts for 63 million additional doses of vaccines | News

The Minister of Health, Hernando Cevallos, announced the signing of contracts for the purchase of an additional 8 million Sinopharm vaccines, which would arrive in October; as well as 35 million doses from Pfizer and 20 million from the Moderna laboratory, whose arrival is scheduled for next year.

From the Mayta Cápac Zonal Park vaccination center, in San Martín de Porres, where he witnessed the vaccination of pregnant women yesterday from 12 weeks, Cevallos indicated that with the signing of these contracts, he would be advancing very decisively in the year 2022 until having an adequate amount of vaccines to protect all the Peruvian people.

“But we must hurry, we must close gaps, to better face the pandemic and the high probability of a third wave in the country,” emphasized Cevallos Flores, who noted that during the month of September the country will receive a total of 13 million 3,590 doses of the vaccine against covid-19.

He also stressed that the Government already had financial resources to ensure the continuity of the vaccination brigades and coordination teams against covid-19 since international experience would indicate the presence of the third pandemic wave.

“The impact of the third wave will have to do with the number of vaccinated people we have. We are increasing the percentage of vaccination, we are decreasing the estimated number of people who could die. We are in that race and for that reason, we insist that older people 50-year-olds go to be vaccinated with both doses since they are the most complicated in intensive care units, “he said.

Regarding Supreme Decree No. 152-2021-PCM, which establishes that nationals and foreigners will need to present the complete vaccination card and a negative molecular test no longer than 72 hours to enter the country, the Minister of Health specified that this measure will be applied only to people from countries that have 70% of their population vaccinated and will not include minors.

“The idea is to have the molecular test and, as an attitude of induction to vaccination, that people in countries with more than 70% of the vaccinated population have both doses. This does not include minors. It is a incorporation that has already been done in the standard, “he said.
