Covid-19 Patients Soaring, RSPI Doctor Sulianti Saroso Confides about the Shortage of Medical Personnel to Jokowi: National Okezone

JAKARTA – RSPI pulmonary specialist Sulianti Saroso, Faisal Rizal Matondang chats with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), via video call. He told about handling Covid-19 in the hospital where he served.

At first, Faisal said that he had been exposed to the Covid-19 virus. However, now he has been declared cured after being treated intensively and with a swab test.

“Yesterday was the last X-ray and it was swabbed. I was declared to have been allowed to work. So today is my first day of duty,” said Faisal as quoted by the Press Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat.

Jokowi then asked about the handling of Covid-19 patients at RSPI Sulianti Suroso. “Alhamdulillah, he has recovered. Doctor Faisal, how is the handling of Covid at RSPI Sulianti Saroso?”

The pulmonary specialist who graduated from the University of Indonesia (UI) explained that the treatment of Covid-19 patients at the hospital was in accordance with the procedures and standards of the Ministry of Health.

The available facilities and medicines are also complete. However, he admitted that currently his party was experiencing a shortage of medical personnel due to the surge in patients who came.

Faisal also explained about his daily life when treating patients. Boredom is one of the main things that patients experience when undergoing isolation and being treated in the hospital.

To overcome this, he gives more time and attention to his patients to chat and joke, despite feeling limited and tight while using masks and other personal protective equipment.

“I used to work with patients for a long time. Apart from the check up, even though I was suffocating due to being covered by PPE, I liked to joke around. Lastly, I encourage the patient to keep the patient thinking positive about the negative result of the swab,” he said.

“I can imagine how hard it will be to handle Covid,” said Jokowi.

The doctor also conveyed a message to the public to remain disciplined in implementing 3M, namely wearing masks, washing hands regularly, and maintaining distance and avoiding crowds.

“Stay in accordance with health protocols, wear masks, wash hands, avoid gathering. Hopefully we can get through this pandemic,” said Faisal.

At the end of the conversation, Jokowi expressed his gratitude and appreciated the dedication and hard work shown by Doctor Faisal, along with other doctors and medical personnel throughout Indonesia.

“I express my gratitude, high appreciation, high appreciation for the hard work of the doctors and medical personnel who are struggling,” said Jokowi. (qlh)
