The World Health Organization said Friday that the Covid-19 pandemic has claimed “at least 20 million” lives in more than three years, sparked economic chaos and deepened inequality, and no longer constitutes a global health emergency, according to French media.
“I declare that COVID-19 is no longer considered a global health emergency,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters.
He estimated that the epidemic had killed “at least 20 million people”, a toll three times higher than official estimates.
