Two departments of the Sept-Îles hospital, on the North Shore, are struggling with an outbreak of COVID-19.
Public Health has already confirmed seven cases, divided between patients and healthcare workers, on the hospitalization unit and on the short-term geriatric care unit.
A screening operation and an epistemological investigation have been set in motion by Public Health, which has not yet been able to reveal whether workers or patients had been adequately vaccinated, for reasons of confidentiality.
How the virus infiltrated the hospital center also remains unknown and, until further notice, visits have been suspended in these departments.
Six outbreaks are active on the Côte-Nord territory.
The Sept-Rivières MRC has two, one in the hospital and the other in a workplace, while the Caniapiscau MRC reports four, all in workplaces.
Some of these cases are not counted in the regional balance sheet, since they are residents who are from outside the region.
With the increase in cases, a new protocol for managing entries into isolated territories, targeting in particular the Lower North Shore, Anticosti and Caniapiscau, will be implemented as of next week.
“People who come to go to the chalet or to go to outfitters are not affected by this entry management protocol. These are public health recommendations. It’s on a voluntary basis, ”explained Dr Richard Fachehoun, Director of Public Health for the Côte-Nord.
This protocol affects residents aged 5 to 11 and people 12 years of age and older who are not fully immunized.
