COVID-19 outbreak at Medicine Hat Hospital

Alberta Health Services (AHS) announces COVID-19 outbreak for the entire Medicine Hat Hospital in southern Alberta after around 20 patients and staff test positive to a screening test.

According to AHS, five patients contracted the disease while staying in the health facility. Sixteen employees were also tested positive.

Visits were restricted to one person with the exception of end-of-life situations.

Hospital remains a safe place for visits and health care. There are no increased risks to patients. All those who show symptoms or receive a positive test are isolated and treated in designated spaces, indicates AHS.

Some units in five other Alberta hospitals are struggling with outbreaks:

  • Foothills Hospital in Calgary;
  • the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary;
  • the Gray Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton;
  • Crowsnest Pass Health Center;
  • Cardston Health Center.
