The rates of infections, hospitalizations and other indicators on the state of the coronavirus in the city are “worrisome,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio.
“Growth is what worries me. We cannot allow that number to continue to grow, “de Blasio said of the average positivity rate for the last seven days, which is now 1.92% (the percentage of people who test positive of all those who are tested for Covid -19).
This figure is the highest that has been given in months and is close to 2%, which would mark the suspension of food inside restaurants.
“We must be really strong right now. When we tell people to play it safe, it is not just an idle message. People should not travel for vacations unless absolutely necessary. We must be really careful,” he added. the mayor repeating what both he and Governor Cuomo had said a couple of days ago about not traveling.
Until now, most cases have been linked to outbreaks that occurred in areas of Brooklyn and Queens, however the fact that the positivity rate increases could be an indication that the infections have spread to other parts of the city.
The mayor also urged New Yorkers not to have indoor parties for Halloween.
