Covid-19: more than 135,000 infected people hospitalized in the United States, a record

This number of hospitalizations of people infected with Covid-19 is the highest since the start of the pandemic. As of Thursday, 662,000 new cases were recorded.

With 135,000 patients, never since the start of the pandemic, the United States has seen so many hospitalized Covid patients. The last biggest figure was 132,000 in January 2021.

However, the data relating to hospitalizations do not differentiate between people admitted due to Covid-19 and patients treated for other reasons and whose infection was discovered during a routine test.

In the country, doctors and hospital services are under strain. Hospitalizations have continued to increase since the beginning of December and the Omicron variant has taken over from the Delta variant.

662,000 new cases identified Thursday

In the USA, 62.5% of the population is fully vaccinated.

On Thursday, the country recorded 662,000 new cases of Covid, the fourth highest daily toll, just three days after reaching a record of nearly one million cases.
