On average, 57 new infections were detected in one day, compared to 111 a week earlier. The number of tests performed decreased by 38.1% last week, with an average of 5,026 tests per day. A week earlier, they had an average of 8,126 tests.

During the last seven days, an average of 12 patients were hospitalized per day, but a week earlier – 20, so an average of 186 (previously 266) patients are treated with Covid-19 in hospitals on a daily basis.

The morbidity continues to decrease in all age groups, and the number of newly detected cases of Covid-19 is steadily decreasing in all regions, the center pointed out.

The reproductive rate (R) of Covid-19 infection is currently 0.59 (0.72 a week earlier), indicating a reduction in the prevalence of infectious disease, the SPKC found.

According to the SPKC, the average cumulative morbidity rate in European countries is 51 (previously 72), but in Latvia the rate is still twice as high as in the EU.

Between mid-May and last week, 106 cases of Covid-19 were imported: 30 from Russia, 13 from Germany, 10 from Turkey, seven from Britain, five from Sweden, four from Egypt and three from Belarus.

Despite the reduction in morbidity, the SPCC calls on the population to be vaccinated against Covid-19. Vaccination is the safest and most effective way of protecting against severe forms of the disease and reducing the spread of Covid-19 infection in the community.
