The regional directorate of Public Health of Montreal asks people who have frequented or worked in bars in the metropolis since July 1 to go for a screening test for COVID-19.
In a press release published on July 11, Public Health indicates that at least five establishments have been affected by contagious employees or customers since July 1. However, it does not name these.
“Public health teams contacted these bars and were able to contact certain people exposed to the virus. However, given the very recent introduction of client registers, several clients could not be traced and it is very likely that other establishments were visited by cases, ”believes the Montreal DRSP.
An increase in confirmed cases among 15 to 39 year olds has been noted in the past weeks.
The chief medical officer of the Urban Environment and Healthy Habits Service, David Kaiser, believes that the cases recently identified are the tip of the iceberg.
“The pandemic is not behind us, community transmission is still very present in Montreal. If we want to lessen the impact of a potential second wave, it is imperative that people who start to develop symptoms similar to COVID-19 and people who have potentially been in contact with cases must be screened and s ‘isolate until they receive their result,’ he says.
