The epidemiological situation in the Occitanie Region continues to deteriorate with an average incidence rate to date of 422 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants and more than 600/100,000 inhabitants in the Herault, according to our information. The white plan has been activated since Wednesday evening.
Thus, in direct relation to hospitalizations, the flow of medical admissions doubled in one week, with more than 400 admissions, particularly in the Montpellier University Hospital. Critical care admissions flows also doubled in one week with more than 120 patients admitted per week in our region. Hospitalized patients are younger than in previous waves – they are 30 to 50 years old – most often presenting risk factors, such as obesity and almost always unvaccinated.
In this highly evolving context at a level of degradation never reached so quickly, Regional health agency -ARS- Occitanie decided to upgrade the regional doctrine for adapting the healthcare offer to level 3. This resulted in the triggering of the White plan in each establishment in the Region, including at the Montpellier University Hospital: increase in the number of Covid-19 beds in medicine and critical care, postponement of medico-surgical activities to the level necessary to allow the adaptation of the ramp-up of beds of critical care and until considering or carrying out transfers between establishments.
