Covid-19 may have been present in the United States earlier than expected

The Covid-19 has been with us for almost a year and a half, but we still don’t know much about it. As the stages of its propagation. A recent study conducted in the United States precisely reveals that the virus would have arrived in the United States earlier than expected.

The study in question involved no less than 24,000 blood samples collected in the United States between January 2 and March 18, 2020, a little before the pandemic got totally out of control there.

These samples all came from the same location, and thus had been collected through the program. National Institute of Health’s All of Us. A program created in 2015 by Barak Obama and which aims to advance medical research by collecting as much data as possible.

Covid-19 may have been in the United States as early as December 2019

By analyzing these samples, the researchers identified seven people positive for antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19 disease. People from many different states, specifically Illinois, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Mississippi.

If it is not surprising to identify sick people in these states, the date of infection of these people is a little more surprising. All of these samples were taken before the disease was detected in these five states.

The researchers therefore pushed their investigations further. They then realized that one of these samples had been taken on January 7 in the state of Illinois. Knowing that it takes about two weeks for an individual infected with the disease to develop antibodies, this means that the contamination of this patient occurred around December 24, 2019.

Surprising results that raise questions

However, the first case confirmed by the American health authorities was dated January 20, 2020, several weeks after this person contracted the disease.

While the researchers do not rule out that these antibodies could result from infection with another coronavirus, they believe that is unlikely to be the case. No other sample taken in these conditions shows indeed such an infection. They also don’t believe the results are false positives.

However, at this stage, it is difficult to determine how these seven people were infected. New studies are therefore recommended by researchers. But if their conclusions are true, then that would mean that the Covid-19 was already present in the United States in December 2019, that is to say on the date when the first cases were identified in Wuhan.
