Between December 7 and 13, 11,695 new Sars-CoV-2 contaminations were detected on average per day, which represents a decline of 27% compared to the previous week. Since the start of the pandemic in Belgium, some 2 million cases of coronavirus infection have been diagnosed.
Between December 10 and December 16, there were 235 hospital admissions per day due to coronavirus, which is a decrease of 17% from the previous reporting period. In total, 2,971 people are hospitalized in Belgium due to Covid-19 (-14%), of which 789 patients are treated in intensive care (-5%).
Between December 7 and 13, an average of 46 people died per day from the virus (-8%). Since the start of the epidemic, the virus has claimed 27,763 victims in Belgium.
Some 87,500 tests on average were also carried out, which represents a decline of 18%. The virus’s reproduction rate remains below 1, standing at 0.86 (-8%). When it is less than 1, this indicator means that the epidemic tends to slow down. The incidence, which indicates the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reached 1,689 over 14 days.
Finally, 89% (+ 0.1%) of the adult population in Belgium has received at least one dose of an anti-Covid vaccine. And 8,754,818 people (76% of the population) are fully vaccinated. Finally, 3,019,303 people (or 26%) have already received the 3rd dose of vaccine (booster). In total, 20.23 million doses have already been administered in Belgium.
