Covid-19: Lar de Reguengos did not comply with DGS guidelines – News

The report of the Order of Doctors’ commission of inquiry to assess the clinical circumstances of the covid-19 outbreak in a home in Reguengos de Monsaraz, to which Lusa had access, says that it was not possible to fulfill “the differentiated isolation for the infected or even social distancing for suspected cases ”.

“There was, for example, no definition of clean and dirty circuits, which was done only on June 26, nine days after the first case was confirmed”, underlines the audit report.

The commission concludes that “human resources were insufficient to provide adequate care in the home, even before the covid-19 crisis, a situation that worsened with positive tests among employees, which prevented them from working”.

One of the most serious consequences is that “several patients have been without the usual therapies for a few days, due to the lack of those who prepare or administer them”, says the document, stressing that “there were cases of preparation and administration of drugs by personnel without nursing training” .

The report also states that patients were not treated “in accordance with good clinical practice”, with responsibilities “for those who, knowing that they did not have adequate and prepared human resources, allowed this situation to be delayed in time”.

He says that all conditions were created for “rapid dissemination, with responsibilities for those who managed the space, the process of epidemiological screening and the application of the DGS rules”.

“The initial screening process – from the first swab to the final results of all users and employees – took close to three days, a period of time when potentially infected people lived and shared spaces, rooms, corridors and bathrooms”, explains.

The commission of inquiry concludes by “disorganization and consequent damage to patients, attributable to the Health Authority and the ARS of Alentejo”, saying that “the process of clinical governance” has failed.

At this level, the report says that there was a “subordination of clinical leadership to higher administrative interventions, with consequent logistical uncoordination of means and health personnel (doctors, nurses), as well as the articulation with auxiliary and volunteer staff”.
