Covid-19: Know what to do if you have contact with an infected person – News

As worsening of the covid-19 pandemic in Brazil, the country has registered daily records not only of the number of deaths from the disease, but also of new diagnosed cases, even registering more than 100 thousand in just one day.

So, what to do if you have contact with a person who tested positive for the coronavirus? According to infectologist Claudia Maruyama, from San Genaro Hospital, in São Paulo, there is no need to isolate yourself immediately.

The expert explains that if the contact has occurred for more than 15 minutes, with a distance of less than 1m, in a closed and unventilated environment, it is recommended that the person keep vigilance for 10 to 14 days.

“If it evolves to flu-like symptoms, loss of taste and smell, it is necessary to seek a medical evaluation and tell about contact with the infected person,” says Claudia. According to the doctor, the symptoms begin to appear from the seventh day after contact.

“If you are a person with whom there is no direct contact, such as someone from another sector at work, for example, then you are not considered a contact person for a confirmed case”, explains Claudia.

When to do the PCR test?

O PCR heads, considered “gold standard” and more efficient to diagnose covid-19, should be performed if symptoms persist for up to two days. According to the infectologist, the test serves to identify whether the person has the disease at the time of the examination.

To find out if you have contracted the coronavirus asymptomatically, or with mild symptoms without worsening the case, the specialist’s recommendation is that a serological examination be done within 10 days after the onset of symptoms.
