The number of deaths with covid-19 in the last 24 hours in Italy was 208, with a total of 38,826 deaths to be regretted.
The country, which became the epicenter of the pandemic in Europe, had less than 30,000 new daily contaminations again, after two days of exceeding that threshold, but the reduction may also be due to a decrease in the number of tests: 183,457, on Saturday, compared to 215,085 on Friday.
The number of cases cured in Italy since the beginning of the pandemic is now 292,380, including 2,954 cases in the past 24 hours.
Lombardy is the region most affected by the pandemic, with 8,607 new infections, followed by Campania (3,860), Tuscany (2,379), Lazio (2,351) and Veneto (2,300).
In view of these figures, the Italian Government is preparing to approve new restrictive measures to combat the pandemic, with Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte expected to appear in Parliament on Monday to explain the strategy for the health crisis.
Among the options considered by the Government, according to Italian media, is the impediment of movement between regions and the closure of shopping centers on weekends, as well as the restriction of hours for commercial stores.
Thus, some large cities, such as Milan or Naples, may be isolated, due to the high number of daily infections with the new coronavirus.
The new measures will try to limit contacts between people, while avoiding general national confinement, as happened between March and April, in order not to further affect the Italian economy.
The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed almost 1.2 million deaths and more than 46 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
