Covid-19 is not over yet, Sukabumi City is Haunted by Dengue

SUKABUMI, JPNews – In the midst of the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak, Sukabumi City is now faced with the problem of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF). Even the Mayor of Sukabumi, Achmad Fahmi, in December 2021 issued a circular regarding the Precautions for the Incidence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) during the Transitional Season in Sukabumi City.

Since early January 2022, the circular has been distributed to all Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) and across sectors. The goal is that all elements can prevent the spread of dengue from an early stage.

The Head of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) of the Sukabumi City Health Office, Lulis Delawati, explained that regional officials, including the sub-district and village heads throughout Sukabumi City, were to carry out the eradication of mosquito nests or PSN 3M plus and the 1 house 1 jumantik movement (G1R1J). Jumantik is an abbreviation of Lartic Monitoring Interpreter.

In the circular, continued Lulis, fumigation or fogging using insecticides is not recommended to be carried out routinely because it can interfere with human health conditions. In addition, fogging can only eradicate adult mosquitoes.

“Efforts to prevent and control mosquito vectors that should be carried out are PSN 3M and the 1 house 1 jumantik movement, carried out independently at home at least once a week. Fogging will be carried out if an epidemiological investigation considers it necessary. What is clear is that the government is and will take steps to anticipate an increase in dengue cases or Extraordinary Events (KLB),” said Lulis, Monday (24/1/2022).

Lulis detailed that the number of dengue cases in Sukabumi City in 2021 decreased when compared to 2020. Where from January to December 2021 it reached 427 people and four people died. In 2020, there were far more dengue cases, reaching 651 cases and three deaths. So there is a decrease of 224 cases compared to 2020.

Lulis said that the cause of death of this DHF patient was dengue shock syndrome. In addition, there are co-morbidities that cause the patient’s condition to worsen during treatment at the hospital.

He continued, most cases of dengue occurred at the end of the year. Among them in November 2021 as many as 69 people and one person died. In October 2021 there were 45 cases and in December 2021 there were 44 cases. Then this year until January 24, the number has reached 39 cases. In several hospitals, there was also an increase in patients due to dengue fever. Therefore, at the beginning of 2022, we are trying to anticipate an increase in cases.

“Other efforts besides PSN are activating the operational group for dengue control (Pokjanal) at various levels of RT, RW, Kelurahan, sub-district to city level. Next, cultivate a clean and healthy lifestyle (PHBS) in all levels of society,” said Lulis.

Meanwhile, Sukabumi Mayor Achmad Fahmi asked the public to remain vigilant about the spread of dengue fever in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Fahmi invites the community to continue to promote the PSN movement and the implementation of Clean and Healthy Lifestyle (PHBS) in their respective environments. “Because mosquitoes breed in puddles of water and must be a concern,” said Fahmi.
