- Progression of “worrying” cases
8,550 positive cases have been confirmed since Friday, roughly the same level as the day before (8,975 cases), confirming the marked increase compared to previous days when there were just over 7,000 new cases in 24 hours.
“In mainland France, the progression of viral circulation is exponential. The dynamic of high-growth transmission is worrying,” notes Public Health France, in its regular review of the situation.
Above all, the multiplication of tests does not explain “the increase in observed cases”, according to this press release. “Since the beginning of July, the number of patients screened has multiplied by a little more than two and the number of new cases by twelve”, notes Public Health France. Nearly nine million tests have been carried out since the start of the epidemic, including more than one million in the past week.
- Steadily increasing positivity rate
Some 53 new “clusters” have been detected, out of a total of 484 under investigation, including 208 in nursing homes. At the same time, the positivity rate (proportion of the number of people tested positive in relation to the total number of people tested) continues to increase: it reached 4.7% on Saturday, while it stood at 4.3% on Wednesday and 4.4% Thursday, according to the DGS.
28 departments in red, seven more
Seven new departments have passed into the “active traffic zone” of the Covid-19, bringing the number of departments in the red zone to 28, announced a decree published this Sunday in the Official Journal. The passage of a department in this color code means that the prefects have “enhanced powers” to take additional measures, depending on “local epidemiological data”.
The North, the Bas-Rhin, the Seine-Maritime, the Côte-d’Or – four departments with important agglomerations, the metropolis of Lille, Rouen, Le Havre, Strasbourg, Dijon – the two departments of Corsica (Corse- du-Sud and Haute-Corse) and the island of La Réunion are affected by these new measures.
28 departments, including four overseas, are now classified in this area according to this decree which comes into force “immediately”. Paris and the Bouches-du-Rhône were the first to be classified as “red” from August 14th.
- New measures taken locally
Closure of bars and restaurants at 12:30 a.m. instead of 11 p.m., but mask compulsory in all urbanized areas of the department: the prefect of Bouches-du-Rhône announced on Saturday the adaptation of the anti-covid measures taken in August, in view of the evolution of the epidemic. These measures apply until September 30, and were taken in consultation with the Regional Health Agency (ARS), assures the prefecture in a press release, taking into account that “the virus is still actively circulating in the Bouches department -du-Rhône “.
Changes in Lille as well. The prefect of the North has punctually decreed the closure of bars from midnight to 6 a.m. on the night of Saturday to Sunday, the weekend when the famous clearance sale was to be held, the circulation of the Covid intensifying while the precautions are relaxed. . Will have to remain closed on the territory of Lille, “for the evening of Saturday, September 5, 2020 from 24 hours to 6 hours”, all bars, snacks, food shops or establishments selling alcohol or food, specified the prefecture in a press release.
