COVID-19 in the world: protests in London against confinement and compulsory vaccination

40% of new cases of COVID-19 are registered in four states: Florida, Texas and Missouri, the most affected being unvaccinated people, said the coordinator of the White House pandemic, Jeff Zients.

According to this official, the difference in the number of cases is and will be more significant between the states that have vaccinated more and those that have vaccinated less, especially if you take into account that the Delta variant of covid-19 spreads more quickly.

Zients said that 97% of all COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths are in people who were not vaccinated. However, vaccinated people are also at risk, although little or no risk.

This figure is consistent with that provided by Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, reports The Guardian. For Walensky, at least 99% of deaths caused by coronavirus were in unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated people. In Alabama, for example, 96% of COVID-19 deaths in April were from people who were not fully vaccinated.

Despite this outlook, Zients noted that in Arkansas, Louisiana, Florida, Nevada and Missouri, the number of people vaccinated has increased over the past two weeks. However, in those same states there is also an increase in cases, which is due to the fact that immunity takes two weeks to be achieved.

However, the rate of vaccination has slowed nationally, and this is most striking in southern states, according to The Guardian. For Zients, these data should be a motivation for local governors to take the vaccination process more seriously.
