In its latest report, drawn up on Friday February 19, 2021, theNormandy Regional Health Agency indicated that the Covid-19 incidence rate, still “high”, had increased slightly on the scale of the region from the February 16 situation update. It is currently 134 (cases per 100,000 inhabitants), against 132 three days ago. This development is due, according to the director of the ARS, Thomas Deroche, to “an effect of viral circulation which is intensifying” in two departments, including Seine-Maritime.
The British variant mainly detected
With Calvados (rate of 115), it is the only one to show this upward trend, “after 15 days of continuous decline”. The incidence there is 144, which remains below the Eure, in first place with 155, but the rate of which continues to decline. The circulation of variants is also confirmed in Seine-Maritime: there are 16.4 identified cases per 100,000 inhabitants (19.6 cases at the regional level). This is mainly the so-called British variant (it concerns 590 of the 653 cases identified in Normandy).
The director of the ARS also referred to the recent measure taken by the State to extend isolation to 10 days for all positive cases, including those concerning nursing staff. Saliva tests, more suited to young populations and often required to be tested, will be deployed in schools in Normandy after returning from winter holidays.
Finally, general practitioners will be able, from February 25, to inject the AstraZeneca vaccine into patients aged 50 and 64 and suffering from chronic diseases. Thomas Deroche indicates that pharmacists and nurses should be able to vaccinate in turn, during March. In all, nearly 222,000 injections have been carried out in Normandy since the start of the vaccination campaign.
