COVID-19 in Puerto Rico: 9 deaths, 191 confirmed cases and 370 hospitalized

In his most recent report, Health Department reported nine deaths from COVID-19 In Puerto Rico; meanwhile, 191 confirmed cases and 147 additional probable cases were registered.

Of the reported fatalities, five were listed as confirmed:

– 68-year-old man from the Metro region

– 85-year-old woman from the Metro region

– 77-year-old man from the Arecibo region

– 73-year-old woman from the Metro region

– 63-year-old man from the Bayamón region

On the other hand, four probable deaths were recorded:

– 83-year-old woman from the Mayagüez region

– 69-year-old woman from the Caguas region

– 76-year-old man from the Bayamón region

– 70-year-old woman from the Metro region

With the fatalities reported, the confirmed deaths add up to 251 and the probable ones are 139, so the total number of deaths is 390.

“It is important to remember that any death registered after the report is issued will be reflected in subsequent reports,” Salud highlights in a press release.

“The change in the number of deaths should not be interpreted as having occurred in the last 24 hours. In the same way, it is important to point out that the death report may vary, to the extent that the processes of registration and codification of the causes of death are carried out, which could take several days ”, adds the agency.

As for the total of the results of confirmed cases of COVID-19 it is 13,477. The total was adjusted by adding four cases with sampling dates from July 20 to August 4. Of that total, 7,065 are women and 6,412 are men. The reported cases are those that have a positive PCR test, with a sample collection date of August 9 to 20

As part of the report, 147 additional probable cases were registered, with a sampling date that ranges from August 11 to 20. In this line, the total is 16,419, after being adjusted, by subtracting 30 cases that had a positive molecular test, later, and were added to the cases registered as part of this report. On the other hand, seven cases were added with sampling dates from June 26 to July 23. Probable cases are divided into 9,034 women and 7,385 men.

Situation in hospitals

At the moment there are 370 people hospitalized due to the coronavirus, of which 66 are in intensive care.

Meanwhile, 36 patients are using a ventilator due to COVID-19. There are 3,263 beds available for adults and 972 for minors.
