COVID-19 in Peru: On Friday, November 5, vaccination of adolescents between 12 and 14 years old begins

This Friday, November 5, the vaccination against COVID-19 of all adolescents aged 12 to 14, announced the Ministry of Health (Minsa).

“From Friday the 5th to Wednesday the 10th of November we will vaccinate adolescents between 12 and 14 years old,” explained Gabriela Jiménez, director of immunizations at the Minsa, to add that the sector has enough stock to start this long-awaited process. parents.

The target population to protect against COVID-19 in the country amounts to 28 million 24 thousand people, which includes adolescents from 12 to 14 years old, considered until now the last population group to protect against said infection.

THE GOAL: 100,000 PER DAY

The Director of Immunizations of Minsa detailed that the national goal of vaccinated in the 12 to 17-year-old group is 3 million 600 thousand people and that to date 219 thousand adolescents of those ages have already been immunized with the two doses, all with defined comorbidities that advanced their protection.

“Of that total we have one million 100 thousand people in Metropolitan Lima and Callao. By dividing it into two groups, we have to serve about 470 thousand adolescents this week. Our goal per day, for this Saturday and Sunday, is to vaccinate 100,000 people between the ages of 15 and 17 ”.

He asked the parents to go motivated to the vaccination center, as well as to accompany the minors that day, since they must sign the informed consent that is required to start this procedure.

“This weekend, in addition to vaccinating adolescents, we need to do a family action. We need teens and their families vaccinated. Then we also invite that if someone has a pending vaccination, accompany the minor and thus close the vaccination gap. Everyone must come with their ID ”.

Gabriela Jiménez explained that at this time everyone the vaccination centers have all the types of vaccine that are administered in the country, in order to place it on those who have the first or second dose pending or are lagging behind.

“If there is someone 50 years old who played Pfizer, we are going to name him Pfizer. If Astrazeneca corresponded to you, we will put the one that corresponded to you. All are covered in the objective goal. In the case of those under 17 years of age, everyone will receive Pfizer ”.
