According to the weekly information point of the Regional Health Agency (ARS), the regional incidence rate is stabilizing and the circulation of the Covid-19 virus is decreasing slightly in Normandy, Tuesday August 17, 2021.
The regional incidence stabilizes with a slight downward trend of -3.3% compared to last week to reach 121.75 against 125.5 on August 10. The situation observed over seven days continues to be lower than that observed at the national level of 245.12 (+ 3.87%).
Increase in the incidence rate in Seine-Maritime and Orne
The incidence in the departments of Eure (96.06) and Manche (106.8) tends to stabilize but increased by + 16.4% in Seine-Maritime (138.4) and by 5.5% in Orne (89.9). Calvados, the department most affected by the epidemic until then, entered a very marked decline, its incidence fell to 137.39 against 187.58 in seven days.
Slight increase in hospitalizations
The ARS also notes a slight increase in the number of people hospitalized for Covid-19 in Normandy, including in intensive care.
On Monday August 16, 412 people were hospitalized for Covid-19 (compared to 383 on August 9), including 57 in intensive care (compared to 50 on August 9). LDirect admissions to intensive care have fluctuated between one and three admissions per day on average for more than 15 days. The number of new conventional hospitalizations is close to 10 new stays on average per day also over a period of two weeks.
Screenings are increasing sharply
Since the extension of the health pass, there has been an increase in screening, but the positivity rate is declining in the five departments.
Between August 8 and August 14, 169,274 people were tested, 4,146 of whom tested positive. While the number of Normans tested is increasing (+ 35.1% in two weeks), the positivity rate of the samples taken is falling (2.38% against 3.18% during the last situation update).
However, Seine-Maritime is the department with the highest rate of positivity with 1,722 positive cases. “The virus is still circulating, respect for barrier gestures remains essential”, indicates the ARS, which recalls the importance of vaccination to fight against the virus.
“Faced with the highly contagious Delta variant, the vaccination is indeed very effective: the data prove to us that the level of effectiveness of the vaccination against this variant is quite comparable to the level of effectiveness against the initial strain. Thus, a complete vaccination schedule is more than 90% effective in preventing hospitalizations due to infection with this variant, ”concludes the ARS.
