In France, the Covid-19 omicron strain has become the predominant and the number of new infections in the country has risen sharply in recent days, the country’s public health service said on Friday.
At the beginning of this week, 62.4% tested positive for the omicron virus, compared with only 15% a week earlier, according to a statement from the service.
It has already been reported that France recorded the highest number of new infections in a single day since the start of the pandemic and that the disease continues to spread rapidly.
The French government has this week approved a series of measures to curb the spread of the virus, including extending the closure of nightclubs, promoting teleworking and making it mandatory to wear outdoor face masks again in Paris.
