Covid-19 in China: Confined iPhone factory promises big bonuses to employees who don’t flee

Money to attract potential fugitives. On Tuesday (November 1) the largest iPhone factory in the world, located in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, China, promised quadrupled bonuses to employees who agreed to stay despite their imprisonment. Employing more than 200,000 people, the giant site, run by Taiwanese Foxconn group, has been placed under a glass bell since mid-October following the discovery of Covid contamination.

In detail, the company Foxconn, whose Zhengzhou plant is Apple’s main supplier, announced on the Chinese social network WeChat that it would pay a daily bonus of 400 yuan (about 55 euros) per day of presence at work, four times the usual amount. The staff will also receive an additional bonus if they are present in the factory for at least 15 days in November, a bonus that can reach up to 15,000 yuan (2075 euros) in case of presence for the entire month.
