To protect yourself from Voc-3 / P1 variant of Covid-19, said Brazilian, the government suspended all flights between France and Brazil on Tuesday April 13.
Observed on the national territory since the beginning of February, this variant deemed to be more dangerous is largely in the minority for now in the screened positive samples, the coronavirus contaminations still being dominated by the British variant.
In Loire-Atlantique, the threat is also contained for the time being. We take stock.
Weak but disparate circulation
As of April 10, the South African and Brazilian variants (Public Health France does not distinguish between the two, Editor’s note) represented 4.3% of tests screened (a technique allowing to identify if a positive test carries a variant). A proportion rather in decline in recent weeks in the department while the British variant is still more hegemonic (90%).
According to the Pays de la Loire Regional Health Agency, disparities nevertheless exist according to the territories. In the communities of South-Estuary municipalities (Paimboeuf), Pays d’Ancenis, Châteaubriant-Derval, Saint-Nazaire, the presence of the two variants was thus confirmed in at least 10% of the tests screened according to data obtained at April 9.
On the other hand, the sectors of Savenay, Clisson, Nozay, Vallet, Machecoul, Pornic, La Chevrolière and Nozay remain sheltered so far with less than 4% of South African and Brazilian variants discovered in the last screenings.
In Nantes Métropole, the situation is also under control with only 5% of infections due to these two variants.
49 people in critical care
Admittedly down below the maximum alert threshold, the incidence rate remains very high in Loire-Atlantique with 245 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants over a week. The agglomerations of Pontchâteau / Saint-Gildas-des-Bois and Nantes are the sectors where the circulation of the virus is the most important with 282 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants recorded over the same period.
Tuesday evening, 301 people were hospitalized in Loire-Atlantique including 49 in critical care, for an intensive care bed occupancy rate of 78.5%.
Since the start of the epidemic, 732 people have succumbed to the coronavirus in the hospital in the department.
