For $ 149 people can get a home test for coronavirus.
The health company, Wellness 4 Humanity arrived in New York City with a new innovation: a covid-19 test dispensing machine to make it inside homes.
Since last January, a storefront at 225 W. 34th St. has housed two of the company’s new vending machines that dispense coronavirus home tests in lieu of treats or snacks as they normally are.
Each covid-19 test purchased in this dispensing machine has a cost of $ 149, which must be paid through credit or debit cards, without cash, detailed The New York Post.
People can pick up the covid-19 PCR test. The test can be emailed to one of the company’s partner laboratories via FedEx with a pre-printed label and your results can be obtained via text message or email within 48 hours.
According to a review by The New York Post, researchers at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center found that, in detecting the coronavirus, a saliva sample collected by themselves has the same effectiveness and is just as accurate as that obtained through nasal swabs.
One of the great advantages of this test dispensing machine is that people can obtain it in complete safety and take the test from their homes, a facility that gives breathing space to the covid-19 testing centers of New York City.
Although this covid-19 test dispensed by the machines is not officially approved by the FDA, the test is among a number of home nasal fluid and saliva collection kits available under emergency use authorization (EUA).
This means that the Food and Drug Administration allows testing “When certain legal criteria are met, including that there are not enough approved and available alternatives.”
Health specialists say that kits to make them at home can help stop the spread of the coronavirus, since it minimizes the exposure of health workers and other people infected with the virus.
“The use of their own collected saliva has the potential to minimize the exposure of healthcare workers and decrease the need for specialized collection devices, such as swabs and viral transport media,” He said Esther babady, director of the MSK Clinical Microbiology Service, in December.
Wellness 4 Humanity plans to install other test dispensing machines in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston and Dallas in order to provide an effective tool for mitigating coronavirus cases.
So far, some universities in the country have already installed these machines, including the University of California at San Diego, as well as Oakland International Airport.
The idea of these test dispensing machines arose in the midst of the collapse of some test centers in the country, where due to high demand, many people had to queue for hours at a time to get the test.
Large companies – such as Amazon – have also designed tools so that people can be tested for coronavirus from their homes, in order to avoid exposure to the virus within hospitals or test sites.
Amazon developed a home saliva collection coronavirus test with prepaid return shipment and laboratory PCR, which consists of a domestic test for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 viruses in symbiotic and asthmatic individuals.
